Steve Jobs might’ve had Apple’s TV revolution all figured out, but the TV industry sure doesn’t want to let it happen–at least not on Apple’s terms.

On Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal brought word that Apple is negotiating with cable companies on some sort of set-top box for live TV and other content. “The talks represent Apple’s most ambitious crack at infiltrating the living room after years of trying,” says the Journal.

But then, the Journal adds this:

Apple doesn’t appear to have reached a deal with any cable operators. One obstacle may be the reluctance of operators to let Apple establish a foothold in the television business.

So basically, the very thing that Apple wants to do–get into the TV business–is considered an “obstacle” by the companies that Apple’s trying to work with. Sounds like those negotiations are going pretty well!

TED Blog

As unusual seasonal effects raze our global ideas on sustainable practices, TED set out on a tour of 14 cities on six continents to find fresh perspectives for the TED2013 conference. While the 293 speakers who participated in this global Talent Search came from wildly different backgrounds, we couldn’t help but notice sweeping themes emerge from their talks. Here, 9 great talks on energy efficiency.

Laurence Kemball-Cook: Energy capturing cement
TED@London
Laurence is an industrial design engineer who used to work for one of Europe’s largest energy companies, but now wants to put people on the power grid by harnessing their daily expendable energy. “Imagine if your walk home in the morning could power lights for your walk home in the evening,” Laurence says. His solution? Pavegen, a flooring tile that absorbs kinetic energy from footsteps and converts it into electricity. “It’s almost like the gamification of energy saving,”…

Business & Money

One day, when smog-free cars run on sea water and every loophole in the tax code has been closed, the entirety of humanity will be in such a glorious state of physical fitness and spiritual bliss that falling asleep will be as simple as  laying one’s head on a pillow. Until that day, however, the business of helping people get a good night’s rest is likely to remain what it is: A fast-growing sector in an otherwise slow-moving economy, with a little fuel additive in the mix that’s only going to make things more interesting. That would be the increasing awareness within the insurance industry that insomnia in all its guises is a real problem for much of the nation.

HARD and EASY

creating a great company….is HARD.
creating a great product……is EASY.
so we have great products and inventions and ideas and talents…but not enough great business structures n systems to push it from prototype to mainstream…from local to global.

GO OUT THERE…..AND WIN.

WIN.

its not for some of us, its for all of us. look around you, from the houses that have been built, to the lightbulbs hanging within, the cars, the phones, and the airplane occasionally humming above you on its way from place to place….they weren’t gifts handed down from aliens, or buried treasures found in an 8th ocean..no. they were the achievements of men, mere men who never knew what would become of what they were pursuing…who strengthen their hearts when all words said IT CANT BE DONE. yet the kept on trying, they kept on fighting till they won. most did it not for money, or fame. most did it, because they couldn’t think of anything else, because they believed there is something at the end of the strange road.

WIN.

now, its your time. you are the one on earth, you are the one with the dream, with the vision, with a dim visible image of what’s ahead of you. you’re the one the words are trying to bring you down, you’re the one they’re saying IT CANT BE DONE to. so what’re you going to do? are you going to close the window giving you that panorama of joy only your heart can see and feel? are you going to turn off the power driving you up so you can come under the laws of gravity keeping you and everyone else DOWN. are you going to WIN?

dont do it for the money. dont do it for the fame.

do it for those who’d be citing your life as a story of encouragement TOMORROW.

do it to have a page in the history books.

do it to save someone tomorrow from giving up.

in your eyes…see eternity…not today.

now go out there…

…and WIN.
